A good stand does more than hold stuff. It pulls a space together. It makes basic things, like soap, cupcakes, or plants, look styled and intentional. And guess what? You can make a stand that does all of that using Dollar Tree items, and it will only cost five bucks. No joke.

We are talking real style here. Think sleek pedestal base, natural wood top, and just enough edge to make it pop on your counter or shelf. And it is not just about looks.

This thing is sturdy and versatile. You will be surprised how much function you can squeeze out of five dollars.

@saranai__ $5 stands from Dollar Tree! All I used were 2 Candle holders and 2 Small Wooden Cutting Boards, hotglued together. This was super simple to make, and I love how chic they turned out! 👏🏼👏🏼 #moderndiy #diyproject #dollartree #finds ♬ Funny - Gold-Tiger

What Do You Need for This DIY Stand?

The base of your stand starts with a black pedestal candleholder. Dollar Tree carries a couple of solid options, so grab one with a bit of height if you want it to stand tall, or pick a short, round metal one if you are aiming for a low-profile vibe.

Freepik / For this DIY project, you need something flat and strong for the top. A bamboo cutting board works great.

If you want extra flair or something more tray-like, snag a Crafter’s Square wood tray with handles. Either one gives your stand a clean, polished surface to build on.

Now tools. Keep it simple. You will need a hot glue gun, a pencil to mark the center, and maybe some spray paint or stencils if you are in the mood to customize.

How to Build the Stand in Minutes

Start by marking the center of your cutting board or tray. Flip the base upside down, place it in the middle of the top, and trace around it with your pencil. This helps make sure your stand doesn’t turn out lopsided.

Now, heat up that glue gun. If you are using a tall candleholder, put glue around the lip of the top ring. Press it down firmly on the circle you just traced. Hold for a few seconds, then leave it to dry. If you're using a short one, flip it and glue the narrow candle slot side to the board. It creates a flat bottom and better support.

Let the glue dry completely before using your stand. This is important. If you rush it, the whole thing could fall apart. Once it’s set, you’re good to go.

Freepik / Want to upgrade your stand from cute to custom? Spray paint is your best friend. Grab a can of chalky mineral paint if you are going for a shabby chic look.

Soft white, matte black, or dusty pink all work well. Just make sure to spray evenly and let it dry outside.

If you want something with a personal touch, stencils are a quick win. Try florals, tiny stars, or short phrases like “treat yourself” or “stay fresh.” Use a light dabbing motion with the paint rather than dragging the brush, then seal it all with Mod Podge so it lasts. Just like that, your stand has personality.

A few small tweaks can completely change the feel. No advanced crafting skills required—just a dash of color and a steady hand, and you’ve got a stand no one else will have.

What Can You Use the Stand For?

This little stand earns its keep. In the bathroom, it’s ideal for Q-tips, lotion bottles, or a soap dish, instantly tidying up the counter. Pop a small plant on it, and suddenly the space has a spa-like vibe—both stylish and functional.

In the kitchen, it can showcase cupcakes or a bowl of fresh fruit. Stack two or three together for a tiered dessert display that makes any party table look special. It’s budget-friendly but far from basic.

Not into food displays? Try candles, small frames, or keepsakes. The added height draws the eye and makes any vignette feel intentional. Pro tip: Mixing different stand sizes creates a layered, polished look.
